My Spanish Finca Los-Hoyos

Derek Pitt purchased Los Hoyos in 2003. The finca is situated in the Burgans Valley adjacent to the Ebro River Valley. The property had been abandoned for a number of years and had become overgrown, so initial groundwork was necessary to provide access. The land was cleared and the first boundary walls were built, using stone that already existed on the finca.

The entrance to Los Hoyos incorporates existing pine and olive trees inside decorative but substantial walls that provides security and privacy to the land..

Living accommodation is a 55’ mobile home. Derek has built supporting walls to hide utilities and provide storage space and a fly free zone at the front of the property. Derek likes to include some artistic features in his designs. The mosaic is the back wall of the outside shower unit. Derek has used local materials to build a barbecue area and swimming pool.

When living in an agricultural area it is necessary to consider local wildlife such as the flies and many people don’t realise that winters in Spain can be cold. The outside patio area is enclosed with fly proof screening and the shuttering provides protection from the cold in winter and the sun in summer.
